Robotic Mechanical Systems Seminar 3/18/98

Everybody is welcome.

DATE: Wednesday, March 18th, 1998
TIME: 11h30 - 12h30
PLACE: McConnell 437
TITLE: Voronoi Diagrams and Shape Reconstruction
SPEAKER: Monique Teillaud, INRIA Sophia Antipolis, France.

This seminar describes work on shape reconstruction done by the computational geometry group at INRIA. Voronoi diagrams and Delauney triangulations are efficient tools for dealing with reconstruction problems. The Nuages software package is based on an algorithm that allows the computation of 3D representation based on the Delauney triangulation, of objects given by parallel cross-sections. Nuages has been successfully used for medical applications: it can also be used to compute the workspace that is accessible to a mobile robot on a terrain, and to compute a path for it.
